The Launa Blossom

This is an encyclopaedia article detailing the specifics of the Launa blossom. Through experimentation with the Launa flower, researchers learnt that they can alter it genetically creating a species, which when brewed into tea, causes a euphoric mind altering state. The lower classes who cannot afford virtual reality, resort to escaping the material world through this powerful new drug.

Plague conspiracy

An ex-plague doctor reveals that the plague was a FABRICATION created by Lao in 1898 in order to conduct experiments in human genetic modification. By 1930, STEM enclaves were divided according to these experiments; the wealthy enclaves escaped the experiments by declaring themselves plague doctors.

The Escape Form Through the Catacombs

This is a collection of evidence that was used to prosecute her and her family after the incident.

Case: 100800A
Tribunal: Laoguna
Judge: J. Filarine

To break free of the oppressive stranglehold that the District’s plague doctors still maintained, Shoko’s father repurposed out-of-date deep sea diving equipment to protect them and several other families as they broke through the District barriers by way of Laoguna’s ancient catacombs. When they were captured, Shoko’s journal was taken as evidence, as she had unwittingly included damning sketches, conspirator names, and other details about her family’s plans.

The journal also provides proof of the plague doctors’ psychological control over their District’s denizens via nightmare manipulation and pharmaceutical therapies, as noted by the administrating officer.

The catacomb attempt failed on Sept 2nd, 1930; 13 died and 8 more, including Shoko’s mother and father, were imprisoned. After a long trial, the case concluded in February of 1935, with the public execution of her parents. Due to her age, Shoko was allowed to avoid imprisonment in exchange for indentured servitude.

Rilao Reality TV

The mysterious disappearance of people accused of crimes has stimulated paranoia amongst the lower class. For the elite, however, these people have been repurposed as entertainment, being cast away hidden under he growing macro-structures, and filmed as they battle their way out. The elite enjoy observing the stuggle, but neer acknowledge the inhumanity of the situation.

Muka whales

The military in the Rilao has, ever since Lao oil discovered an endless source of Muka oil, helped out occasionally to load barrels of oil on to ships, as a strengthening “warcry.” They would sing “muka, muka, muka.” And so too would the whales, as their own “warcry”.

Monster!

The story of the Marakihau Monster is reframed in this digital multimedia book that was created by a group of people who met weekly in the restaurant. The book predicts how the monster will become the lynchpin of the mind control future.

Our version: A multi-media horror book about a swarm of drones that accompany the Plague Doctor to scare children into submission.

Note: this project went pretty far away from the original vision card, envisioning the monster as an electronic plague doctor aide, floating alongside plague doctors for support. Superstitious villagers regard this electronic drone as an agent of the plague in itself.

LIVE ON “Memory Limbs”

After death, a custom among the Laugonan elite is to save the bones of the deceased. Through surgery, portions of this bone are then implanted in the living relatives, enabling them to carry around a piece of their loved ones.
A common implantation point is the shoulder, and these “memory limbs” are a source of comfort for those mourning the loss of their loved ones. Due to the cost of the procedure, it is only common among the elite, who view it as a necessary part of the grieving process.

The Amazing Tool

Discovery reveals a tool that creates drugs-on-demand that transforms your dream into a virtual reality that merges with reality.

(Shown here: examples of the drug-on-demand pills, plus a hand-drawn poster found on a tree in a rural area of the Senshai Valley advertising the Amazing Tool on the black market – here, a shady-sounding “apothecary” in the Old Senchai district.)

Lucius’ (creator of The Children of Ma’ra’ki’hau) Map of the Houses of Idols

Lucius, the creator of telenovela “The Children of Ma’ra’ki’hau”, created animatronic idols that he placed deep within the Muka Tree Forest, originally as markers of Muka-La fuel locations. But these idols became symbols of Ma’ra’ki’hau values, and mark places of prayer and sacrifice to the monster. This map was originally drawn by Lucius, but has been copied and annotated and now also holds not just the locations of these Houses of Idols, but also the sacred paths and locations of ritual offerings and the key phrase/chant of ceremony: “At root and stem of self and tree–/Blood of Life and soul of Sea/Join our hearts and minds as one/As Ma’ra’ki’hau we become.”
